Application of multi-media plasmas to nano-material treatment

As an application of the multiphase plasma to the treatment of materials with nano-scale surface, we have tried to modification of the surface of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) through plasma chemical reactions in ammonia aqueous solution. The MWNTs, which do not disperse in aqueous solution, have uniformly dispersed after the multiphase plasma treatment.

We have performed a preparation of the composites materials composed of poly-amide 6 and the nanotubes. Investigation of mechanical and thermal properties of the composites revealed that mixing of the treated nanotubes can improve them.

These works have been performed in the laboratory of Prof. Takai and Prof. Saito in Nagoya University, when I was a contract professor in Nagoya University.
